Junior News

Junior Chairman’s End of Season Newsletter- May 2008.

Coaches, Parents & Players of the Junior Section,

Another Season has finished & we can all put our feet up on Sunday mornings for a well earned rest.

Firstly a big thank you needs to be said to a number of people:

To all Parents- thank you for your support at all age groups. Particularly at the younger age groups, it is really important to support both the children and the Age Group , whether it is on the training pitch putting out cones etc or in the kitchens.

To all the Coaches, Managers & First Aiders; you give your time freely & without you the Club could not function. Thank you.

Helen Marsh has done a fantastic job as Fixture Secretary & as Secretary to the Junior Section; indeed she has been so enthusiastic I’m sure she would tackle other demanding roles at the same time!

Thanks also to Fiona Noden who has managed the Kitchen & made regular visits to the Cash & Carry. Fi is stepping down for next year, when we are proposing to appoint a professional cook for Sunday mornings, who will be responsible for food ordering & purchase and cooking. There will still be a kitchen rota to help with teas/ coffees & bacon butties etc. We will need someone to take over from Fiona and manage the tuck shop, periodically stocking up on sweets & cans. If you are able to help out, please let me know.

Also many thanks for the work done by Kit Clucas, Membership Secretary and Anne Smith, Child Welfare Officer. Having seen the efforts, especially behind the scenes, they have put in hours of effort.

To Dave Probert, Festival chair, & his team of Rob Merrick, Nick Evans, Helen Clemetson & Helen Marsh a huge thank you. Once again we had the best Festival in the North West; having attended a couple of the planning meetings, I can testify to the amount of work put in by this team.

A big thank you to Phil Howells who has designed the fantastic new logo which we shall be using next season.

The work done on building & repairing the fence on the Bollin, has also been a fantastic effort. Many thanks to Carrie Denham and her team of volunteers.

I had hoped that I would be writing this with a hangover from the Summer Ball; unfortunately we were unable to attract enough tables, despite the substantial work put in by Carrie and her team. Many thanks for the efforts despite the late cancellation.

Finally thanks to the sponsors & Parents who have donated to the club. Next Season we aim to capitalise on the sponsorship from Lexus & Gusto and promote further sponsorship opportunities with a view to substantially increase the revenue to the club.

If any Parent or coach would like information on sponsorship opportunities for next season, please contact Chopper McKevitt (colin_mckevitt@hotmail.com).

Congratulations:

Whilst team success this season cannot be measured by the presence of trophies, many congratulations to Harrison Lewis, u16s, and Junior Colt Fraser Atkinson who represented Welsh & Scottish Exile squads respectively. A great achievement. Good luck to Harrison who has been asked to play for Newport Dragons u18s next season.

GUSTO Discount

Please remember, the 10% discount off food is ongoing. You need to order your WRFC membership card.

Jeremy Roberts, MD, writes: ‘I am delighted to confirm that the GUSTO website is now operational and your members can now sign up online for their Loyalty card.

All they need to do is go to:

http://www.gustorestaurants.uk.com/partners/sponsor

Enter Username : WRFC

Password :          wolves123

They can then sign up on line and we will send their personalised card out by return. Apologies for this taking a bit longer than anticipated but I think you will find that it is worth waiting for as it is now a very easy process (I hope!).

This year we have finally got the website up and running. Thanks to all those administrators who update it. It is far from perfect, but there are plans to upgrade it over the summer & bring it in line with the Senior site.

Over the Summer, work will be done to re-clad & re-roof the Stand, together with building a retaining wall & patio in place of the old section of the stand.  As I write, I am still unsure of any planned Volunteer days at the club which were so successful last summer in helping clear & tidy up. This will include the ongoing repair to the Bollin fence.

Next Season starts with Registration on Sunday September 7th. We have arranged for Frances Trainer, orthodontist & parent, to attend, where the Children can have moulded gum shields fitted.

As with Last year, we also hope to get a proforma out to parents in the next couple of weeks, allowing them to pre- order kit which will be ready for collection on 7th September. This will need to be returned promptly to allow for the order to be placed. We are looking to have Canterbury branded playing kit & leisurewear next season.

Over the Summer, Kit Clucas will send out the pre- populated membership forms to all 2007/08 members. Please amend if necessary, sign & return together with the subs as soon as possible. A letter will be sent out shortly to all members re the Subs.

A date for your diary: WRFC AGM 19th of June 2008, at the Club. 7.30pm

Finally I am delighted to report the good progress being made by Junior Colt Rory Stewart. Rory had a tumour behind his knee removed, firstly by a long programme of chemotherapy, and secondly via surgery. There was a chance he would lose his leg, but a metal kneecap & part of his tib/fib means he will keep Airport Security alert in the future. Although his rugby career has finished prematurely, Rory says he is looking forward to finishing his treatment in August and getting down to the club to support his mates playing senior rugby.

Have a great Summer- see you back in September.

Martin Hill

Chairman – Wilmslow RFC Junior Section

2.HAVE you the time to put a little back into the club?
There are changing faces and places on the committee and we’re looking for more volunteers to come on board.
Promotion to North Two West for the club means more work on the field for our boys and we want a first class team behind them to keep the club running smoothly.
And in case you didn’t know, there is much, much more to Wilmslow Rugby Club than 1st XV rugby.
There are three more senior sides and a flourishing junior section to look after, as well as matters business, commercial, house and grounds to consider.
We need movers and shakers to lend a hand in a variety of roles and would like to fill these positions before nxt season.

  • Asst. Treasurer
  • Chair. Ground
  • Chair. House
  • Asst. Membership Sec. for 2009/10)
  • Commercial Manager

If you feel you can contribute anything in these roles, please contact acting chairman John Harries by e-mail at jananjon@ic24.net

3. We have a new club logo; a redesigned snarling wolf. This will replace the Howling Wolf on all club merchandise from next season. See Right Hand Column.

4. Have a good summer- See you all in September

ps Don't forget, on Tuesday & Thursday evenings from 7.30 to 9pm, Alex, the club physio is available to all members free of charge. Tim Smith, u15 Parent commented: 'Rowland went to the Club to have some  physio on his knee. Just passing on how impressed Sian was with this facility  - “brilliant” “fantastic” etc etc etc. Seems to have been a hit!
A message for spectators

They stand on the field, their hearts beating fast. The whistle has blown, the die has been cast.
Mum and Dad cannot help, they stand all alone. A try at this moment will send the team home.
It’s one against one, he must tackle but misses. There's a moan from the crowd, some boos and some hisses.
A thoughtless voice cries "take off the bum". Tears fill his eyes, it’s no longer fun.

If you're ever tempted to shout or to groan, remember it's a child, who stands all alone.
So open your heart, give them a break; it's moments like this, a player you make.
Keep this in mind please do not forget, they're only children, not adults yet!

Parents’ Skills Database.

Please see the attached letter below. We are half way through this exercise of information gathering. It is voluntary, but the more we as a club know about our members & parents, the better positioned we will be when looking for support.

Tesco Sports Vouchers

The club is collecting Tesco sports vouchers again, which are then used to obtain additional equipment for the club.  If you have any of these please give them to Keith in the bar.  As they say “every little helps.”

WRFC Gift Vouchers Available

Gift vouchers are now available from the shop in £5s, £10s and £20s. They can only be redeemed in the shop & not behind the bar!! See shop section below.

To All Parents / Coaches & Players at Wilmslow RFC

Stockport RFC Learning Difficulties Rugby

I have been fortunate to meet representatives of the Stockport RFC Learning Difficulties team.

A group of boys, girls, men and women, between the ages of 9 and 29 play tag rugby and train every Sunday morning from 10.30 to 12 noon at Stockport RFC.

The benefits of team sport and physical activity are huge to these players; not only is there enjoyment, but also the coaches have seen greater confidence & even leadership qualities develop with some of the guys & girls.

The organisation, skill sets and dedication of the coaches is to be admired.

The team are looking for new players. If anybody has brothers, sisters, sons, daughters or friends who might be interested, please contact Kay Weeks on 0161 427 5595.

Please see the attachments below for more information.

Thanks

About WRUFC Juniors

The Memorial Ground, Kings Road is home on Sunday mornings to around 300 young players from age 6 to 18. The club runs 10 age groups, from under 7s to under16s.Training or matches start at 10.30 am. We also run two older teams, the Junior & Senior Colts at u17 and u19, who kick off at 12noon and 2pm respectively. Each age group has RFU qualified coaches.

All age groups play competitive games with local clubs, ranging from the nearest being Manchester and the furthest being on the Wirral about an hour away. The season starts the first weekend of September and continues until the end of April, with the climax being the Cheshire cup finals and our own, highly successful , Festival for the u7 to u12 age groups.

We believe one of the most important aspects is for the children to enjoy themselves; the Club places a high emphasis on Child Welfare, and our Child Protection Officer, Anne Smith, ensures we embrace the RFU guidelines. Please see the Child Welfare Section.

We pride ourselves in the strong sense of family and community at the club. The coaches are given a great deal of support from parents with a whole host of activities such as help in the kitchens, to administrative duties. We are very much one inclusive club, and enjoy a close relationship with the Senior members.

All age groups are looking for new players, so if you are interested, please come down to the club, or contact your relevant age group coach {see Contacts section}.
